BOOG-A-LOO YOUTH ARTS FESTIVAL
The first annual art festival was held on August 3 and was enjoyed by over 250 participants!
This event aimed to enrich the lives of youth by introducing them to different forms of expressions. Hosted by Arts Street, the Boog A Loo was a collaboration of various organizations from all disciplines of art including music, visual arts, architecture, and more. All activities were interactive and engaged the youth in new and innovative ways. Arts Street was able to secure the McNichols Event Center on Saturday, August 3rd from 10:00am-3:00pm free of charge due to its community based mission.
The Boog A Loo project gave young people and their families the opportunity to enjoy art to the fullest. About 250 people came and stayed throughout the day. The most enjoyed activites were film, sticky note mural, rock painting , digital music composing, recycled material art, face-painting, cardboard architecture, and spoken word. The 20 organizations that were there provided a wide variety of great activities for the youth.
Thanks to the youth apprentices at Arts Street who help advertise the Boog A Loo event through YourHub, Denver Post, 9News, Asian Avenue, and also by handing out flyers throughout the Denver community.
The event center remained active, bustling, and lively throught the day with coloring , playing, and building inside , and food graffiti , and chalk art outside . Even outside with the food truck, graffiti, and chalk art, there were many young children that drew and enjoyed their meal. Next year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, August 2nd, 2014. Save the date! Thanks to all the organizations that offered activities. We hope this is the first of many annual projects to come.
